Entries are now being accepted for the second annual Environmental Services (ES) Department of the Year Award. The award recognizes best practices in cleaning the built environment and was jointly created by Health Facilities Management magazine and the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES). Cintas Corp., Cincinnati, is sponsoring the contest.

The competition is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of a leading-edge hospital ES/ housekeeping team in maintaining high levels of performance in 12 critical areas.  

“Environmental services and housekeeping departments are key contributors to a hospital’s overall success when measuring patient satisfaction, timely patient flow, infection prevention, environmental stewardship and providing a clean, safe health care environment,” says Patti Costello, ASHES executive director. “The ES Department of the Year Award provides national recognition for the significant contributions made by an environmental services department to the overall patient experience and achieving a health care organization's mission.”

Entrants will be required to provide demographic information on their departments and hospitals, in addition to offering details about their performance. Finalists will be required to produce necessary documents to support their entry.

All submitted data will be kept confidential. The deadline for completed entries is Entries due by June 5, 2009.

The winner of the Environmental Services Department of the Year award will be profiled in Health Facilities Management and recognized at the ASHES Annual Conference, which will be Sept. 20-24 in Reno, Nevada.

ASHES encourages all members and non-members to participate in nominating themselves as well as other ASHES members that they feel best deserve an award.

Award nominee must be a current ASHES member.
