March 17, 2008
Chicago - The American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced a new initiative focusing on the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) Six Aims for Improvement in healthcare.
"Environmental Services (ES) professionals across the nation are committed to an agenda for quality that embraces the goals of the Six Aims for Improvement: care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-focused" stated Patti Costello, ASHES Executive Director.
ASHES has developed resources directed at ES professionals to make the business case for better quality using the Six Aims for Improvement as drivers for departmental operations.
ASHES developed the document Environmental Services Role in Achieving the IOM's Six Aims for Improvement. "This document makes a strong connection between the environment in which patients are cared for, the professionals that serve these patients, and the Six Aims for Improvement," says Tina Cermignano, CHESP, 2008 ASHES President. "We wanted to provide a concrete platform in which the ES department could base their role in achieving these important goals".
The document, posted on www.ashes.org and available only to ASHES members, provides:
In addition to this document, ASHES is also making the connection between each one of the Six Aims and the educational sessions provided at the 2008 ASHES Annual Conference and Marketplace in San Antonio, Texas, September 7-11.
