Top Rated Speakers Confirmed for the ASHES 24th Annual Conference & Marketplace

Chicago, June 17, 2009 - The American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES) of the American Hospital Association today announced its line up for keynote speaker and general sessions at its Annual Conference on September 20-24 in Reno, NV.

The impressive lineup includes:

  • Astronaut Rick Searfoss - One of less than a hundred people ever who have commanded a human space mission, Colonel Rick Searfoss speaks on leadership, teamwork, and personal performance with authority born of in-depth personal experience. He has piloted two Space Shuttle missions and commanded a third, with over 939 hours in space and 5400 hours flying time in 61 different types of aircraft. His first space flight in 1993 set the record for the longest duration Space Shuttle mission. In 1996 he piloted Atlantis to the Russian space station Mir. Searfoss speaks on Monday, September 21.
     
  • Dr. William M. Wagner, ScD CHSP CHCM, Vice President for Education, Research & Development, Safety Management Services Inc. - Dr. Wagner retired from the US Public Health Service (PHS). His appointments with the PHS included the work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He also worked with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations® (the Joint Commission®), the Environmental Protection Agency, World Health Organization, Underwriter's Laboratory, and the College of American Pathology. As a Senior Staff Consultant for SMS, Inc., he conducts audits of Environment of Care® Programs, prepares healthcare facilities for the Joint Commission® survey, and develops Emergency Management Programs. Wagner will speak on Tuesday, September 22.
     
  • Alex Frankel, Author and Consultant - Frankel is a brand observer, journalist, and consultant. He has written two books that examine branding and marketing in the context of modern culture. He is the author of Punching In: The Unauthorized Adventures of a Front-Line Employee. Alex has written about business culture for magazines that include Fast Company, Wired, and The New York Times Magazine. Alex studied modern culture and media and received a BA in English Literature from Brown University. Frankel will speak on Wednesday, September 23.
     
  • Paul Fayad - President and CEO, HHA Services - Fayad began his career in Healthcare in the 1970's in Facilities and Environmental Services. He joined HHA Services in 1981 and in 1990 was appointed President/CEO. He has spoken at numerous national conventions and conducted seminars on customer service, service recovery, patient focused care, time management, and building a positive workforce. Fayad has written, produced and directed three videos on and written a book titled, Customer Focused Services, Building Customer Loyalty. Fayad is the co-chairman of the Service Contract Education and Training Trust Fund, located in Washington D. C. and has a business degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, with a graduate degree from Central Michigan University. Fayad will speak on Wednesday, September 23. 
     
  • Tom Olivo, Founder, Healthcare Performance Solutions, and Success Profiles Inc. - Olivo focuses on business performance measurement and marketplace research. This has enabled him to design and provide organizational and performance measurement instruments and database management services, to clients, management consulting firms, and accounting firms from coast to coast. Along with his coaching experience, Olivo's collegiate participation and coaching has given him an unmatched motivational perspective. Tom was twice honored as an NCAA All-American athlete in Springboard Diving, and was recognized as the 1985 NCAA coach of the year. Olivo will speak at the closing general session on Thursday, September 24.

The theme for the 24rd ASHES Annual Conference and Marketplace is "Accelerating Performance: Crossing the Threshold. The conference will take place September 20-24, 2009 in Reno, Nevada.
